A whole bunch of cute felt brooches

Are you starting to think about holiday gifts? How about some unique, handmade, local pins? I can make them custom as well.

Cute felt brooches (I don't like that word and the spelling is monstrous but what else do you call a decorative pin?)

With the impending cold arriving more and more everyday I am starting to think of how to fancy up my coat, hat and scarf uniform of the next 7 months. How about some cute little felt... _________? Want one? I'll make one for you.

Homemade Chai

I LOVE chai! I make my own from cardamon pods, cinnamon sticks, ginger root etc. It is delicious. In fact, more than a few people have said it is the best they have ever tasted.

Verde sauce from seed!

The only thing more satisfying that cool delicious home-cooked meals from scratch, is doing so from seed. I planted these tomatillos in May and made them into delicious Verde sauce this weekend. Here is the progression:

Fresh Tomatillos

Stewing Tomatillos

Yum!

An omelette that looks like an omelette

After several attempts with increasing success, this morning I made an omelette that really and truly looks like an omelette. Artichoke hearts and delicious cheese from a local farm. What I learned from this is that the more butter, the better the omelette. Yay butter!

One hideous omelette

I have decided that it is no good for someone who considers themselves a bit of a cook to not be able to make a proper omelette, and so begins... the omelette challenge. My real issue is that I hate hate hate runny eggs in any form. I can pretty competently make a traditional French squishy squashy omelette but then I would not be able to eat it. It helps that I have chickens and therefore a plentitude of eggs and that even the ugliest omelette tastes good.

So here is the ugly product of day 1: hideous.

Post card collage

After being rained out of the Gunks, I followed a dear friends advice to go to the most serene contemporary museum. It was absolutely beautiful. To keep the inspiration I found there present I have made a collage of post cards which now hangs above my drafting table. If you are in the area, you should definitely visit Dia: Beacon http://www.diabeacon.org/

Tiny little knit bunnies

When everyone I knew started to have babies I realized that aside from registries, there were very few sweet little gifts out there that really spoke to me. These little guys make perfect newborn presents. They are machine washable and very soft. They even have adorable bottoms.

Patty Pan and Pesto Quiche

This may look like an ordinary picture of quiche taken with a camera phone and the second part of that is correct. This quiche is made with my mom's perfect crust recipe (I even made it 1/2 whole wheat, she must be so proud.) The filling consists of eggs from my backyard chickens, squash, onions and pesto from my garden and cheese from the grocery store. Cheese is often the sticking point for my 100% homegrown meals but I can't think of a simple sollution for that and I'm sure not giving up cheese. Yum!
